Swansea take huge step towards Premier League survival

With Swansea City not kicking off their match against Everton until Saturday evening, they knew that a victory would life them above Hull City, who lost at home to Sunderland earlier in the day, and out of the Premier League relegation zone.

  • Chelsea keen on re-signing former graduate

  • When Sunderland were relegated last weekend, Hull City would have been confident that they would beat them comfortably in their bid to prevent the same fate. That was not to be, as Sunderland gave their travelling fans a rare day to cheer, in what has been a torrid season. They beat the Tigers 2-0 at the KCOM stadium, putting an end to Hull's recent home form.

Over at The Liberty Stadium, Swansea were well aware of earlier results, which meant that victory would lift them above Hull City. Everton have shown positive signs this season, but failed to impress in this one, with Swansea's desire to stay in the Premier League the difference between the two sides.

The only goal of the game came on the half hour mark, when Fernando Llorente got the better of Phil Jagielka, to get on the end of Jordan Ayew's cross.

Swansea came close to doubling their lead on several occasions, but this result means that with two games left to play, their Premier League fate is in their own hands.
