With Middlesbrough's relegation back to the Championship confirmed, their focus now turns to next season, as they look for an instant return to the top flight. Current caretaker manager Steve Agnew is expected to step aside, and a former captain of the club has admitted that he would be interested in the role.
Nigel Pearson was captain of Middlesbrough during his spell with the club in the 1990's. He has since gone on to have managerial success, knowing exactly what it takes to win promotion from the highly competitive Championship.
The Sun today reports that Pearson would be interested in returning to his former team, who will be hoping that their return to the Premier League will be much quicker than the seven years it took last time.
Nigel Pearson guided Leicester City to the Premier League during his second spell in charge of the club, and also has Championship managerial experience with Hull City and Derby County.
As the Championship appears to be getting stronger every single year, Middlesbrough will want to get a new managerial appointment sorted as soon as possible, to assure that they are fully prepared to hit the ground running on the opening day of next season.
