Defoe deal made permanent

Defoe deal made permanent

05 February 2008 - 18:34

Jermain Defoe has signed a permanent deal at Portsmouth. He has signed a four and a half year contract with the seaside club and was never on a loan deal contrary to reports.

  • Chelsea make first move to sign Xabi Alonso
  • Chelsea ready new contract for star midfielder
  • There was confusion over the terms of the transfer, with Portsmouth initially announcing Defoe had joined on loan.

But Pompey's chief executive Peter Storrie says that the deal was always a permanent one.

Sorrie's claim was contrary to those of a Portsmouth spokeman who said on Sunday: "Defoe's transfer was done as an initial loan because of time restraints.

"The full documents will be signed and registered this week and this is a standard method when you have little time."
