Primeira Liga champions Benfica have confirmed that goalkeeper Ederson will be plying his trade in the Premier League next season after they agreed on a £34m fee with Manchester City.

  • The 23-year-old is set to become the world's most expensive shot-stopper beating the previous £32.6m sum paid by Juventus to recruit Gianluigi Buffon from Parma 16 years ago.

According to Sky Sports News, the Citizens are yet to make an official announcement over the imminent arrival as they are still resolving third-party ownership issues.

Ederson, who was released by Benfica as an 18-year-old, had plyed his trade for lower-league club Ribeirao before making the move to Rio Ave.

He therein rejoined the Portuguese holders in the summer of 2015, and has since lifted two league titles and three cups with the Lisbon-based outfit.

Ederson will become the Citizens' second signing of the transfer window following the £43m arrival of Bernardo Silva from AS Monaco last week.
