Manchester United confirm Lindelof deal

Lindelof will be Manchester United's first signing

Manchester United confirm Lindelof deal

11 June 2017 - 03:29

Manchester United have released a statement to confirm that Victor Lindelof will be coming to Old Trafford.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • The Swedish international enjoyed a successful four years at Benfica, winning the league three times. This past season proved to be a breakthrough year for Lindelof as he established himself as a first-team player, appearing 46 times in all competitions.

Manchester United tried to sign the 22-year-old in the January transfer window last season but Mourinho ultimately decided against bringing a player so late in the campaign.

Manchester United have finally gotten their man and released an statement on their official website, saying: "Manchester United is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Benfica for the transfer of Victor Lindelof, subject to a medical examination, international clearance, and personal terms. A further announcement will be made once the transfer is complete."

Although the fee was undisclosed, various new outlets have rumoured it to be around £30.7 million.

Mourinho will be happy to have completed his first signing so early on in the transfer window and will be even more delighted to have acquired a centre back as the United defence needs shoring up. Lindelof was previously praised by none other than Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the Swede described his countryman as someone "good enough for the big clubs out there".

Lindelof's arrival, however, will cast a greater doubt over Chris Smalling's future as the English international now seems poised to leave Old Trafford.
