Liverpool are prepared to step up their interest in signing Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.
The Catalan giants signed Ronald Araujo on loan from the Blaugrana over the summer with an option to buy for around £55m.
The move raised plenty of eyebrows, considering Araujo struggled for minutes during the back end of last season at Barca.
Araujo is primarily a centre-back by trade, but he has caught the eye with his performances from right-back for the Anfield giants.
If he continues to perform at the same level, Liverpool will no doubt trigger the option to purchase him at the end of the season.
It is now claimed that Liverpool could do business with Barca again in January and have their sights set on landing Balde's services.
Balde has fallen completely out of favour at the Spanish champions, but he could get a new lease of life with the Merseyside club.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola is not entirely convinced by Milos Kerkez as the first-choice left-back and wants an upgrade.
Balde would be a solid addition to the ranks, given he has strong distribution skills and possesses good defensive attributes too.
He was reluctant to leave Barcelona over the summer, but may decide to move on now that Xavi Espart and Joao Cancelo are ahead of him in the pecking order under manager Hansi Flick.
