Lindelof wants centre-back role

Man United's Lindelof reveals his preferred position

15 June 2017 - 05:37

Manchester United's new signing Victor Lindelof has revealed that he prefers to play in the central defensive department despite having featured in the central midfield and right-back positions earlier in his career.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The 22-year-old secured his long-awaited move to Old Trafford on Wednesday after he inked terms on a four-year contract.

The Sweden international has been frequently highlighted as player, who could be deployed at right-back, but Lindelof is prepared to fight for his position at the heart of the defence.

"My position is a centre-back, but I've played right-back before and I started my footballing career as a midfielder. But I see myself as a central defender, I feel most comfortable there," he toldĀ MUTV.

Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind have all featured in the position for United, and Lindelof is confident of competing for a place as he looks to make a name for himself in the Premier League.

The Swede's arrival is likely to have a fundamental effect on the future of Chris Smalling, who is a transfer target for a whole host of Premier League clubs.
