In a stunning turn of events, Ibrahimovic is set to reject a move to America and instead wants to compete in the La Liga one more time, but this time with Real Madrid.
Ibrahimovic was released by Manchester United earlier this month after they opted against renewing his contract, citing his serious knee injury as a major reason behind their decision.
The Swede was enjoying an incredible debut season for United, scoring 28 goals in 45 appearances, before tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in a Europa League quarter-final clash with Anderlecht in late April.
Despite a successful surgery and a steady rehabilitation thus far, his return date is expected to be in January next year, which would put him out of action was at least four months of the new season.
Since then, a whole host of clubs have been linked to the 35-year-old. Major League Soccer (MLS) was thought to be the most likely of destinations, with a return to Swedish club Malmo and Italian club AC Milan also being talked about.
However, Spanish news outlet Don Balon has reported that Zlatan wants a move to European Champions Real Madrid and plans to finish his career at the Bernabeu. The report stated that the Swede will contact manager Zinedine Zidane and offer his services to the team.
Ibrahimovic spent one season in La Liga with Real Madrid's fiercest rivals, Barcelona. He had a cold relationship with then manager Pep Guardiola and left after just one season.
The forward is thought to be bitter about his experience in La Liga and wants to end his career by conquering the league, even if it means accepting a pay cut of up to 50 percent of what he was earning at Manchester United.
