Tottenham to part company with Kevin Wimmer

Wimmer set for Tottenham exit?

Tottenham to part company with Kevin Wimmer

19 June 2017 - 18:20

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has decided to let defender Wimmer depart White Hart Lane this summer. The Austrian centre-back has been deemed surplus to requirements for the upcoming 2017/18 campaign.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Kevin Wimmer, who arrived at Tottenham Hotspur in 2015 from FC Koln, has struggled to impress manager Mauricio Pochettino on a regular basis and has now asked his agent to find a new club in search of regular football. Mauricio Pochettino has agreed to allow the 24-year-old to depart North London this summer.

Several Premier League clubs are interested in Wimmer, with Southampton and Stoke City understood to be front of the queue in the race to sign the Austrian international.

Wimmer has been the third choice defender at White Hart Lane behind Toby Alderweireld and Jan Verthongen and will seek to leave Spurs early with two years remaining on his contract.

Wimmer could also return to Germany, where RB Leipzig are closely monitoring the centre-back's uncertain transfer situation.

Southampton are reported to have been quoted £20m to sign Wimmer.
