Moussa Dembele will be a perfect replacement for Cazorla

Moussa Dembele will be a perfect replacement for Cazorla

18 July 2017 - 10:44

Celtic forward Moussa Dembele is a surprise target for Premier League rivals the Gunners, with Dembele reportedly linked as a long term-replacement for the injury ravaged midfielder Santi Cazorla. Dembele could find first team opportunity limited this upcoming season after telling his agent that he would seek a move elsewhere.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Multiple reports indicate that Dembele has already told his agent that he is ready to leave Scotland and that a move to a Premier League rival is his preferred option.

Dembele is also wanted in France, with Monaco, Lyon and Marseille both interested in the French forward's coveted signature.

Celtic, who won the Scottish Premier League last season, are battling to keep hold of their star men and Dembele appears to be one of those. Celtic were in insatiable form last season as they romped to full domestic success and are desperate to keep hold of Dembele as they prepare a challenge for European honours for the 2017/18 campaign. Scottish teams have struggled in Europe in recent years but Celtic's incredible season in 2016/17 indicates that potentially the club can improve for the year ahead.

It is understood that Celtic will try to keep hold of the striker and offer him an improved deal.

The former Fulham man has three years remaining on his Parkhead deal, and Moussa Dembele is 10/1 to leave Celtic to join Arsenal.

Dembele has also been linked with a host of other teams across the continent, not just in France or England. Reports from Italy suggest that AC Milan and Inter Milan have been monitoring Dembele's progress, whilst Spanish giants FC Barcelona are looking for a possible replacement for Neymar, who has been linked with a shock move to Paris St Germain.

Dembele is certainly one of Europe's best young players and a move to one of the best teams on the continent makes sense for the young striker.

Arsenal have been looking for further attacking talent with possible departures for Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud on the radar.

Santi Cazorla has been struggling with injuries over the past 14 months and is expected to miss a chunk of the upcoming season, too. Whilst Arsenal consider Moussa Dembele as an out and out striker, Arsene Wenger knows that Alexandre Lacazette, the Gunners' most recent signing from Lyon, is able to play on either flank and therefore presents a suitable replacement for Cazorla. Cazorla is also reaching the final years of his career despite extending his contract for a further 12 months.

It is understood that Wenger believes Lacazette's long term future will be on the left wing of Arsenal's attack and Dembele would be the focal point of the strike force.

Arsene Wenger has extended his Arsenal contract for a further season and part of that agreement included a hefty improvement on transfer funds made available for new players. At current market rates, Arsenal signing Dembele will certainly cost in the region of £ 40 million.
