Manchester United are planning a fresh move to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong at the end of the season.
The Dutchman was a top transfer target for the Red Devils in the summer of 2022 and a fee was agreed between the clubs.
However, De Jong had no desire to head for the exit door. He rejected the opportunity to negotiate personal terms.
The midfielder will enter the final two years of his contract this summer and there are now doubts over his future again.
Barcelona want to keep him for another two years with a pay-cut, but De Jong is said to be eyeing a pay rise to stay put.
United are watching the proceedings with great intent and could pounce on the opportunity to sign him during the summer.
The Red Devils were prepared to pay €85 million for his services in 2022, but he could cost slightly more this time around.
It remains to be seen whether they can afford such a transfer fee without Champions League football next season.
