Luke Shaw to extend Manchester United contract

29 August 2017 - 06:00

Left-back Luke Shaw will sign on the dotted line on a brand new contract this week, extending his stay with Man Utd for a further 12 months. With the threat of the former Southampton defender leaving the club, club bosses want the England international to sign a fresh contract.

  • Chelsea make first move to sign Xabi Alonso

  • Shaw, who has been often criticised by manager Jose Mourinho in the press for form and fitness, is happy to remain at the Old Trafford club but wants to double his current salary in order to do so.

Man Utd officials are ready to improve the defender's contract in the coming weeks amidst reports of a potential Liverpool bid for the defender.

Shaw, who has only played for Man Utd 32 times since his arrival at the club back in 2014, is desperate to impress England manager Gareth Southgate this season so that he can represent England's national team at the World Cup in Russia next summer should they qualify.

Shaw has two years remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford.
