Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has reportedly decided to run out his Gunners contract in order to join Manchester United at the end of the season.
The Germany international is said to have no intention to extend his Gunners deal beyond next summer, and this has recently attracted interest from Italian giants Inter Milan.
However, according to The Mirror, Ozil's representatives have made initial contact with United over a potential switch, and the response is said to be 'encouraging'.
Ozil worked alongside Jose Mourinho in a three-year spell at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, and the Portuguese head coach remains a huge fan of the World Cup winner.
The 28-year-old has made a slow start to his season with Arsenal this term with injuries affecting his progress. He is likely to return to the starting line for the game against West Bromwich Albion on Monday night following his absence from the London derby against Chelsea with a knee problem.
