Arsenal Injury Update: Mesut Ozil out of Brighton clash

30 September 2017 - 10:08

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mesut Ozil will miss Brighton & Hove Albion game this weekend with a minor knee injury.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The Germany international played the final 10 minutes of the 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion last weekend but was rested for the midweek Europa League clash against BATE Borisov.

Speaking in a pre-match conference, Wenger confirmed that Ozil will sit out the Brighton match as he is still recovering from a 'short-term' knee injury.

"Very short-term. He is not far, but he is not enough for Sunday," he is quoted as saying by Evening Standard.

Meanwhile, vice-captain Laurent Koscielny is a doubt for the Sunday clash, and he is expected to have a late fitness test to decide over his participation.

Wenger added: "It’s an Achilles problem, it’s on-going. I think everybody else should be available."

Ozil has yet to notch a goal or assist for the Gunners this term, and he will have an extended rest during the international break after he was excluded from the German squad for the World Cup qualifiers.
