Maldini plays 1000th game

17 February 2008 - 22:51

Paolo Maldini this weekend completed his 1000th professional game as he came on as a substitute for Milan against Parma in the goalless draw. Maldini has been one of the finest defenders of this generation.

  • Arsenal handed injury boost on defender ahead of Bournemouth clash
  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?

  • The 39-year-old veteran came on as a second half substitute at Ennio Tardini to make his 1000th landmark throughout his 23-year playing career for both Italy and Milan.

"I would like to dedicate this achievement to my family, in particular my mother who has followed me all these years and has always stayed close," he told reporters.

"Tonight I've played my 1,000th match, it is a number that remains impressive, it is only a shame that we haven't won the three points but there are always highs and lows."

Maldini made his Milan debut in 1985 against Udinese, after which he became one of the pillars of the Rossoneri.
