Dani Alves: one of Europe's finest defenders

Dani Alves admits that he almost made Liverpool move

01 November 2017 - 10:41

Paris St Germain defender Dani Alves has sensationally revealed that he very nearly joined Liverpool. The former Barcelona defender, who has won most of Europe's top accolades as a professional footballer, made the move to Ligue 1 to link up with his compatriot Neymar during last summer's transfer window.

  • Arsenal linked with new shotstopper as backup to Raya
  • Juventus and Roma to battle for 20yo Arsenal star

  • It is understood that Dani Alves had the opportunity to move to Liverpool back in 2006 and that he instead decided to make a move to Spain, where he agreed a deal to join Barcelona and then went on to have almost a decade of success at the Nou Camp. Considered one of the best full-backs of all time, Alves, now of PSG, also has suggested that he would one day like to make a move to England and play in the Premier League. With the veteran defender having just six months remaining on his deal in Paris, the Brazilian can discuss terms with a foreign club from January 1st 2018.

According to Dani Alves, he could have made the move to England but Barca won the race in a £ 28 million deal instead.

Dani Alves told reporters at Four Four Two: "I pretty much had an agreement with Liverpool. But for whatever reason, it didn’t happen at the last moment and I really don’t know why, as I wasn’t the one conducting the negotiations."

"Of course, it all worked out happily for the Cules [Barcelona supporters] in the end, and also for me as I was able to write an amazing story at the Camp Nou instead."

Dani Alves has been linked with a move to England in the future and it is understood that Liverpool could even return with a transfer deal for the right-back, such is the respect that the Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp has for Alves.

According to multiple reports, Liverpool will make a move for a new defender next season. Jurgen Klopp has been busy undergoing Liverpool match analysis and believes that his priority to improve his squad for a Premier League title challenge will start from his defense, such is the concern at the club that his current crop of defensive players is not good enough.

Dani Alves will certainly be keen to make a move to England if that is still an option.
