Arsenal chasing Bayer Leverkusen youth prospect

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen youngster Kai Havertz. The talented German under-21 international playmaker has been a revelation since forcing his way into Bayer's first team and is now coveted by some of Europe's top teams.

  • Arsenal are, according to a report from Germany, in pole position to sign the young midfielder and are believed to be favourites as Havertz's idol is the Gunners' attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil. It is understood that Arsene Wenger has asked Ozil to even contact Havertz in an effort to force through a deal this summer.

Havertz has come through at Leverkusen as part of a golden generation of youth players, however the club's domestic form has struggled and the team currently sits at the wrong end of the Bundesliga table.

18-year-old Havertz is lauded as one of the best up and coming players in the world and a move to England is reportedly a dream for the midfielder, who is comfortable playing anywhere in the midfield but his preferred position is in a Mesut Ozil-type creative role.
