Man City hunt Steven Defour

25 February 2008 - 23:59

Man City are one of many clubs looking at Steven Defour, the 19 year old captain of Belgium's Jupiler League leaders Standard Liege. The midfielder was nominated as winner of the 'golden shoe' last season in Belgium, which goes to the country's best player.

  • Chelsea to face League One club in FA Cup quarter-final
  • Man Utd to sign Chelsea star Andrey Santos?
  • Defour is very highly regarded in Belgium and Sven-Goran Eriksson has reportedly been watching the 19 year old in action for Standard in recent months.

His impressive displays have already attracted the attentions of Ajax, who attempted to exploit a loophole in Belgian law to sign the player from Gent.

He instead chose Standard, and has progressed at an alarming rate.

Defour made his debut for Belgium in 2006, and has played regularly for his country since.

Sven-Goran Eriksson is ready to make an offer of around £6 million in May to secure the signing of Belgium's hottest talent.
