Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a summer agreement to sign Greek centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos from German outfit Borussia Dortmund.

  • The 29-year-old, who has previously been linked with a move to Manchester United, is widely expected to leave Dortmund after turning down a new contract beyond the 2018/19 season.

According to Kicker, the north London giants have already made contact with the player's entourage and a deal of around £17.5m is likely to be finalised in the near future.

The Gunners are reportedly keen on reinforcing their central defensive department ahead of the 2018/19 season and aside from Sokratis, the club are also looking into a deal for Freiburg's Caglar Soyuncu.

The Turkey international has earned plenty of plaudits in the Bundesliga for his strong ball interception skills and reports suggest that the Gunners may have to pay up a £35m fee in order to convince Freiburg into a sale.
