07 June 2018 - 13:59

Germany international Mesut Ozil is reportedly facing a race against time to represent his nation at the summer World Cup finals in Russia.

  • Chelsea defender back in training ahead of Man Utd game
  • Chelsea keen on re-signing former graduate
  • The Arsenal midfielder sustained a knee injury during Germany's 2-1 friendly defeat to Austria in which he scored and he is now deemed doubtful for the World Cup.

According to Bild, the German attacker has not returned to full training since the challenge from Watford's Sebastian Prodl and he has been limited to just fitness and conditioning work.

It is added that he will certainly miss the upcoming warm-up game against Saudi Arabia whilst also facing the prospect of sitting out for the opening stages of Germany's World Cup defence.

Ozil, who had a below-par season with Arsenal last term, was part of the German squad which clinched the World Cup in the summer of 2014. He has contributed 23 goals in 90 caps for the national team under Joachim Loew.
