Versatile defender Ramiro Funes Mori has left Everton and signed for Spanish club Villarreal, signing a three-year contract. The Argentinian defender appears to have been surplus to requirements at the Premier League side and has joined the "Yellow Submarines" in a deal worth a reported 8.15 million euros.
Funes Mori had struggled with injuries for most of his time with the Toffees and had been linked with a loan move abroad this summer, but has instead decided to make a transfer on a permanent basis. The 27-year-old played a part in 67 games for Everton and had been entering the final year of his contract with the club.
New manager Marco Silva had been looking to clear up his squad ahead of the new season and allowed Funes Mori to open talks with Villarreal as soon as Silva had arrived at the club.
Funes Mori scored 5 goals for Everton and has signed a four-year deal with the Spanish side, who are believed to have beaten MLS side LA Galaxy as well as German club Werder Bremen to the signing of Funes Mori.
