Chelsea have announced the departure of Antonio Conte from the head coach role after a two-year period with the club. Former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri is expected to succeed his compatriot at Stamford Bridge ahead of next season.

  • Conte had been tipped to be sacked shortly following the FA Cup final triumph over Manchester United but the move was kept on hold after they could not reach an agreement with Napoli for the release of Sarri.

However, after more than 45 days, the Blues are looking certain to appoint Sarri as their next manager and they have hence taken the decision to dismiss Conte.

"Chelsea football club and Antonio Conte have parted company," read a statement on the club's official website. "We wish Antonio every success in his future career."

Chelsea begin their pre-season with a game against Perth Glory in Western Australia on July 23 before tackling Inter Milan in the International Champions Cup five days later.
