Chelsea close in on Rugani deal

27 July 2018 - 10:25

Officials of Chelsea have travelled to Italy seeking to complete a deal for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, according to The Times.

  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • They will meet Juventus officials and discuss the possibility of completing a £40m transfer for the former Empoli man.

Chelsea reportedly had a £36m offer rejected for the defender who made 22 Serie A appearances last season for the champions.

The 23-year-old Italy international's current deal with Juve expires in the summer of 2021.

With Chelsea still having a good number of central defenders, it is quite surprising that they are still in the market for another.

With their pursuit for Rugani intensifying, it is expected that the Blues will have to part ways with some of it's defenders.

England defender Gary Cahill has been linked with a move away from the Bridge, but the reports surrounding that have stopped in recent weeks.

Chelsea are currently on their pre-season tour as they prepare for the start of the new season.
