Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho may need to spend another £200m in order to make the team capable of competing for the title.
United started the campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over Leicester City but things have since gone downwards for the club with back-to-back losses including a 3-0 rout at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking after the Spurs game, Carragher was hugely critical about the state of Mourinho's side and believes the club need to spend a further £200m to come anywhere close to challenging for the Premier League.
"There's a serious lack of quality, if you've spent £400m on a squad. How do you lose 3-0? That's a team that looks like it still needs £200m spent on it," he told Sky Sports News.
Mourinho's position is likely to be called into question following the Spurs defeat but based on the club's history, a dismissal is unlikely to happen at such an early stage of the campaign.
United's next league game is up against Burnley at Turf Moor this weekend and anything less than a win may raise further doubts on the Portuguese's position with the club.
