Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly set his sights on pursuing the signature of midfielder Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers in January.
The 21-year-old had been heavily linked with an exit from the Wolves over the summer but the Portuguese decided to stay put instead after he was offered a fresh five-year contract.
Neves has since made a positive impact for the Wolves in the Premier League with one goal and an assist from the first four games but there remains an uncertainty over his long-term future with the club.
According to The Sun, both United and City are monitoring his developments and they could go head-to-head to pursue his signature in the New Year.
It is added that Mourinho is more determined to land the midfielder ahead of the reigning champions and this may witness United spend big midway through the season.
Neves, who shares the same representative with Jose Mourinho, is presently being valued at around £60m by Wolves and they may not settle for anything less for a mid-season sale.
