  • Defoe said: "I'm really enjoying it here. I'm enjoying training a lot. Credit to the boys for making me feel at home, really. I knew a few of them anyway. But the lads are great here and the spirit is really good, so that has helped me.

"I feel at home here now definitely. I'm in a hotel at the moment but I'm viewing a few houses and hopefully can get it sorted soon. It's a nice club with a good atmosphere. The most important thing is playing week-in, week-out, or as often as I can.

"This is a team who can go places. Everyone believes we can go far. We have international players here. When I got the phone call I looked at the squad and thought Portsmouth was the place to go. This is a great opportunity for me.

"The club were doing well before I arrived. I just want to keep pushing us up the league now I'm here. Hopefully I can help them do that."
