20 September 2018 - 10:47

Manchester United have entered the race to sign Ajax star Frenkie de Jong, according to the Sun.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the Dutch midfielder, who is regarded as one of the top youngsters in Europe.

It has been revealed that United reportedly sent scouts to watch the Dutchman during the last international break.

The Sun also added that United are set to move for the versatile player in January. Apart from playing as a midfielder, De Jong can also play as a central defender.

A source from United revealed to The Sun: “Jose and the staff like the look of him. He can play in a few different roles and he looks comfortable wherever, which is a big plus."

Signing De Jong will add another player to United's already crowded midfield, but his versatility will definitely make him fit into the squad and help the manager to play him more.

The player favours a move to Barcelona having recently said he would love to play alongside Lionel Messi.
