Liverpool start contract talks with Gomez

Liverpool begin contract talks with England international

26 October 2018 - 17:56

Liverpool have reportedly opened a dialogue with the representative of Joe Gomez as they seek to commit the Englishman to a fresh long-term contract.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Gomez started the season as a regular at the heart of the defence in Dejan Lovren's injury absence and he has since continued to keep a starting position on the right side of the backline.

According to The Liverpool Echo, the Reds hierarchy have been immensely impressed with the application of Gomez this campaign after coming off another season-ending injury last term.

It is added that talks have begun between both parties regarding a new contract despite Gomez's current deal only due to expire in the summer of 2022.

Gomez has endured a number of injury concerns since his arrival from Charlton Athletic in 2015 and this has restricted him to just 53 appearances across all competitions.

Despite this, his talent has been recognised by both club and country and he could have an excellent future ahead of him, should he manage to overcome his injury concerns every now and then.
