Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has highlighted the need for two signings when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year.
The Red Devils boss had been desperate for a central defensive addition last summer but the club could not meet his requirements as they were reluctant to pay over the odds for any recruit.
United have since gone through a difficult period where their backline has been far from impressive and according to The Manchester Evening News, Mourinho may seek to sort the defensive frailties in the New Year.
Aside from a central defender, the Portuguese tactician is said to be eyeing a new marksman to compete with Romelu Lukaku, who has been misfiring over the past few months.
Lukaku started the campaign with four goals in the space of five matches but he has since failed to find the scoresheet in nine matches across all competitions.
