A number of Manchester United players are said to have grown frustrated with manager Jose Mourinho's persistence with Nemanja Matic in the starting lineup.

  • The Serbia international has been almost ever-present in the United side since his move from Chelsea last summer and he has already racked 14 appearances this campaign.

However, the midfielder's form has been questioned so far this season and he was criticised during the recent Manchester derby where he left Ilkay Gundogan unmarked before Manchester City's third goal in their 3-1 win.

According to The Times, a section of the United players and backroom staff feel Matic is untouchable regardless of his lean form and they are unhappy with Mourinho over his preference for the Serbian.

Mourinho was responsible for luring Matic back to the Premier League with Chelsea in January 2014 and three years later, the midfielder reunited with the Portuguese upon him being named the United boss.

Manchester United are currently eighth in the standings with just 20 points after the first 12 matches. They are already seven points behind the top four and a further five behind league leaders Manchester City.
