Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is surprised that Aaron Ramsey has decided to part ways with the Gunners at the end of the season.
The Wales international has been with the north London club for more than a decade and during this period, he has become a fan favourite after contributing notably towards the club's FA Cup success.
Despite this, the midfielder could not find the breakthrough with the Gunners regarding a new contract beyond the summer and this eventually paved the way for him to agree terms with Juventus over a Bosman move.
Speaking exclusively to Sportsmole, Wenger has now admitted that he was surprised by the midfielder's decision, given he had no desire to leave the Gunners during his time at the club.
"In the case of Ramsey it is not a question at all of contract. Not at all. It was not a financial situation and not a desire for the player to leave as long as I was there," he said.
He added that the Welshman's decision to leave the Gunners may not be financially depended and something else may have happened behind the scenes contributing to the eventual decision.
