Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has suggested that he could pursue a fresh challenge elsewhere when his current contract with the club expires.

  • The 30-year-old was recruited from Borussia Dortmund on a three-year contract last summer and he has since been an integral part of the first-team squad under Unai Emery.

However, speaking to Kicker, the 30-year-old has stated that he may not remain with the north London side for the long-term and could part ways at the expiry of his current deal in June 2021.

"In the summer I will be 31, I have two years of contract with Arsenal, then I would like to play in the US or in Asia," he was quoted as saying by the German publication.

Sokratis is expected to feature from the starting lineup when Arsenal face Rennes in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 clash on Thursday night.

The Greece international has made 26 appearances for the club to date.
