Smalling to swap United for Italy permanent move

Chris Smalling eyes permanent Roma move

07 September 2019 - 11:47

Chris Smalling wants to make a permanent move away from Manchester United at the end of the season and has indicated that a potential next destination could be AS Roma. The Serie A outfit have signed Smalling on a loan deal until next summer, with the England international defender hopeful that a contract can be agreed with the Italian club.

  • Smalling has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford on a permanent basis after losing his third choice centre-back place to Phil Jones. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prefers to play Victor Lindelof alongside Harry Maguire at the heart of the United defence, leaving Smalling on the sidelines for the near future.

The 29-year-old defender is valued by his club in the region of around 10 million euros, with several teams all chasing the player. It is understood that the favourites to secure Smalling's signature could be Serie A rivals AC Milan at the end of the season; the club have been tracking Smalling's transfer situation closely.

Smalling has two years remaining on his deal with Solskjaer's side.
