Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Jesse Lingard won't take any part against Newcastle United after picking up a hamstring injury.

  • The England international came on for the final 15 minutes of the Europa League clash against AZ Alkmaar last night but he could not finish the game after pulling up with a hamstring concern in stoppage time.

In the post-match press conference, Solskjaer confirmed that Lingard has indeed suffered an injury setback and he won't be available until after the international break.

"He tweaked his hamstring so he didn’t feel like he could risk it, but hopefully it’s not too bad. Probably not Newcastle, but he should be ready for Liverpool," he was quoted as saying by the club's official website.

Aside from Lingard, Solskjaer provided an update on Paul Pogba by stating that the French midfielder is unlikely to return from an ankle problem for the trip to St James' Park.

Manchester United are currently languishing in the 10th spot in the league table and have accumulated just nine points. They will face the Magpies on Sunday in the search for their first away win since March.
