Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has provided an injury update on three first-team stars ahead of the club's Premier League clash against Newcastle United.
The west London side have been hampered by multiple injury concerns this term and most recently, N'Golo Kante, Andreas Christensen and Mateo Kovacic picked up injuries on international duty.
Speaking in a press conference, Lampard confirmed that Kante and Christensen are definitely sidelined for the game and the latter could be unavailable for the next fortnight.
"No, N’Golo is not fit. A small groin issue with France, he isn’t fit for Saturday. Andreas has a hamstring problem which is going to see him out for two weeks," he was quoted as saying by the club's official website.
However, Kovacic is said to have overcome the knock on his thigh and he is expected to accompany Jorginho at the heart of the midfield. When asked about the Croatian, Lampard told: "Kovacic had a knock on his thigh, but in contention."
Chelsea have won the past four matches across all competitions. They are favourites for the Newcastle United game but need to be wary of the Magpies, who have surprised many with 1-0 triumphs over Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
