Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has expressed his pleasure after the Blues registered a slender 1-0 triumph over Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.
The west London giants were the dominant team against the Magpies but they had to work hard for the victory with Steve Bruce's side putting up a resolute defensive display.
Marcos Alonso eventually made the difference with the winning strike in the 73rd minute and Lampard is pleased that his team are moving in the right direction.
"It sounds good. We know we want to be challenging in the top four and from a slightly difficult start it's a good sign that we are moving in the right direction," he was quoted as saying on BBC Sport.
The Capital outfit have temporarily moved to the fourth position in the standings with 17 points on the board but they could be leapfrogged by Arsenal, should they beat Sheffield United on the road on Monday night.
The Blues' immediate focus will shift to the Champions League where they are scheduled to face Ajax away from home. Lampard's side are presently in their group with four points after the opening two European games.
