Chelsea have reportedly opened contract negotiations with Willian amid the speculation that Barcelona could sign him on a free transfer at the end of the season.

  • Willian's current deal with the Blues is due to conclude in June 2020 and he is free to discuss a pre-contract with an overseas club when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Blaugrana have been touted as the leading contenders to land Willian on a Bosman move but Goal.com suggests that the Blues are determined to keep hold of the Brazil international.

Blues head coach Frank Lampard has brought a fresh look to the club with the promotion of several young graduates but the 41-year-old is still said to highly value the services of Willian.

The former Shakhtar man made a slow beginning to the season after recovering from a hamstring problem. Since September, he has been nearly ever-present for the west London giants while contributing three goals and three assists.
