The history of the emergence and development of American football

01 December 2019 - 19:07

One of the main symbols of the United States is a team game called American football. Its story began with a teenager who violated the rules of an ordinary European match. During the football championship, William Webb Ellis from Rugby grabbed the ball with his hands and rushed with him to the opponent's goal. That's how a rugby game appeared in 1823. And almost 50 years later, players from Princeton and Rutgers universities met on the New Brunswick football field to play either rugby or football. The legendary match took place on November 6, 1869. This day became the birthday of the game called "American football."

  • The game was systematized by Walter Camp, a judge, a player and a sports commentator, who later became known as the father of American football. His system includes "5 points for a touchdown", an increase in the number of points for an opponent, the advantage of the team that owns the ball. At the beginning of the XX century, the American president was outraged by the rudeness of the game and the high injuries of the players. There were immediate innovations and penalties. Players were ordered to wear a uniform protecting them against gross attacks by rivals, and since 1939, they have been charged with the mandatory wearing of a helmet.

    Throughout the XX century, the rules of the game improved: the length of the field changed, the number of team members decreased, the time of the match decreased, a six-point touchdown appeared. In reality, you can familiarize yourself with Berita bola online game without leaving your home. Casinos have always attracted a large number of people. And the point is not only in the prospects of gain but also in the excitement and atmosphere. And while earlier it was necessary to leave home in order to play roulette, today the vastness of the Internet has mastered gambling, and therefore it is not difficult to find a casino on the Internet.

    Professional football players stood out from the total mass, and the private schools were created. In 1920, several teams formed their own Union, and then the National Football League, which was later merged with the independent American one. The merge of the NFL and AFL marked the American Football World Cup, and the final game between the Champions was called the Super bowl I. It has become the most prestigious and expensive phenomenon in sports life.

    American Football rules

    The main goal of this sport is to earn the most points by advancing the ball in all permitted ways to the end zone on the opponents' side of the field. The total duration of the match is 3 hours. Each team has eleven participants - forwards, defenders, and special players. Points are awarded for:

    - pass to the test (point) zone;

    - moving the ball to the test zone;

    - throwing the ball between the bars of the opponent's goal.

    At the beginning of the ball, seven forwards of each team remain almost motionless near the line where the ball lies. The center plays passes a ball between the legs of the players of his team; he starts the attack on the opponents' field. The ball reaches the goal in two ways - the player either holds it in his hands and runs in the right direction, passing the ball from hand to hand to his colleagues (if necessary), or passes the ball in the throw (once). A goal scored above the crossbar between the bars is considered a goal.

    The game hour of American football is divided into quarters of fifteen minutes. The beginning of each game moment begins where the previous one was completed. The game moment ends when:

    - the player with the ball was thrown onto the field;

    - the player with the ball runs out of bounds;

    - the ball touches the ground outside the field;

    - the player missed the pass, and the ball fell on the field;

    - the team managed to earn the right amount of points;

    - while violating the rules of the game.

    Each team has four opportunities to advance the ball a little more than 9 m into the test zone. If attempts are made, the team receives 4 more automatically; if not, this right passes to the opponents. An equal score at the end of the game gives the referee the right to appoint an additional 15 minutes to determine the final winner.

    Field and gates for the game

    The American football field is a 110/49 meter rectangle (or 120/53.1/3 yards). There are the goal lines at each end of the field at a distance of 91 meters (or 100 yards) from each other. A nine-meter (or ten-yard) end zone is located between the goal lines and the field boundary. Crosslines are drawn every 4.5 meters (or 5 yards). Every 9 meters (or 10 yards) are numbered from 10 to 50, starting from the boundaries of the score (points) zones to the center, so that it is clear how much more you need to go with the ball to get a touchdown.

    Participation in the panel of judges of the last three referees is optional and depends on the particular match, its significance, and the decision of the referee's organization. Each of the judges is responsible for knowing how many yards the team needs to win, as well as the number of downs played, and timeouts are taken.

    They also need to know when the ball is declared dead, the score at any time of the game, what signals should be given at one or another time in the game, when they include a countdown for a free-kick. Judges' outfit is a prescribed uniform and plus to it: markers of foul and important field points, game cards for recording fouls and downs, as well as a whistle.
