Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is going to be one of the busier Premier League managers in the January transfer window, as his club make up for one year of a full transfer ban with several transfer moves over the next three weeks. There are rumours that at least six players are departing Stamford Bridge, with as many as four new faces coming in.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) have recently halved the club’s transfer ban and now Chelsea will be able to sign players again this month.
It makes for a busy period for all managers over the festive period, as just last week Frank Lampard and Jurgen Klopp both complained about the hectic schedule of games and travel that their players have had to embark on throughout December in to January. Now it only gets busier for the manager on the transfer market and for the club's board that bankroll the transfer business.
Danny Drinkwater has today already departed the club in favour of a move to Aston Villa on loan. Drinkwater has opted to join Aston Villa after ending an unsuccessful loan spell at Burnley, and is expected to fill in for the injured John McGinn.
Marcos Alonso, Emerson Palmieri, Ross Barkley, Pedro, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi are all up for transfer if reports are to be believed, with Pedro seeking a return to Spain having appeared just a handful of times so far this season. Olivier Giroud, who at 33 is heading in to the twilight years of his career, is linked with a move to America or potentially home to France. Meanwhile the disappointing Emerson Palmieri is wanted by AC Milan.
Lampard, when asked about the decision to change the club's transfer ban, quipped: “It's a positive outcome for us. It allows us the potential to look at the market going forward. So I'm pleased from a footballing level.
“It was never my business to get involved in the reasons why or the legal side of it."
It is understood that Chelsea will be spending as much as £150 million on new faces over the coming weeks.
