Frank Lampard updates on injury concern for Chelsea star

13 January 2020 - 20:31

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has revealed that a minor hamstring concern contributed to midfielder N'Golo Kante's absence from the recent Premier League clash against Burnley.

  • The Frenchman has picked up a number of knocks this term and this has restricted him to just 12 starts from the club's 22 games in the English top-flight.

Kante was completely excluded from the matchday squad for the Blues 3-0 win against Burnley over the weekend and when asked about an update, Lampard revealed that the Frenchman felt some tightness in his hamstring.

The Blues head coach added that the setback could be a minor one but the exact nature of the problem will be identified following an assessment by the medical team in the coming days.

"It was more of an awareness in the hamstring as opposed to a moment where he had to pull up. So that makes you hope it's a small thing, but we'll have to see how it goes," he told via Football.London.

In the absence of Kante, Ross Barkley was handed with a rare league start for the Blues and the Englishman managed to impress as he made a key goalline clearance when the club were 1-0 ahead.
