Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is reportedly pushing the club to seal the services of RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner before the transfer window closes this month.
The Blues have largely relied on Tammy Abraham to lead the line this season and he has had no competition whatsoever with Michy Batshuayi struggling to impress off the bench while Olivier Giroud wants to leave the club.
According to The Mirror, Lampard is keen on sealing the forward's signature before the end of the month and he has encouraged the club's hierarchy to make a suitable offer for the German.
The Blues, however, could face direct competition from Liverpool whose manager Jurgen Klopp is prepared to offer a more tempting deal to Leipzig before the deadline.
The German head coach is a long-term admirer of the German's services and reports indicate that he would prefer to agree on a transfer deal whereby Werner would link up with the Reds during the summer.
Werner has been in sublime form for the Bundesliga leaders this term and he has amassed 25 goals and 10 assists for the club across all competitions.
