Chelsea enter the race to sign Argentine star

08 February 2020 - 18:19

Chelsea have reportedly joined the race to land the signature of Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan during this summer's transfer window.

  • Chelsea ready new contract for star midfielder
  • Chelsea make first move to sign Xabi Alonso
  • The Blues were unable to make any signing last month and that has genuinely frustrated Frank Lampard, who wanted to strengthen the attack.

According to Calciomercato, Lampard will be backed with sufficient funds in the summer and a new striker is said to be one of the priorities for the Blues boss.

It is added that Martinez is regarded as the prime target and the Blues could go head-to-head with the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United in order to secure his services.

Martinez has netted 16 goals from 26 outings for the Nerazzurri this term. Inter are not looking at the prospect of sanctioning his sale but his &pound94m release clause remains affordable for some of Europe's elite.

Chelsea are scheduled to host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge after the winter break. The Blues won't have an easy contest, considering they have failed to beat United in their previous two meetings this term.
