Why Manchester United rejected chance to sign Hakim Ziyech

Solskjaer ended Ziyech interest to focus on Sancho

Why Manchester United rejected chance to sign Hakim Ziyech

13 February 2020 - 16:27

Manchester United are understood to have dropped their interest in Hakim Ziyech earlier this month in order to focus on the signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

  • Andoni Iraola attracted to Chelsea project?
  • Chelsea tipped to sell £30m striker this summer
  • Earlier on Thursday, Chelsea and Ajax confirmed a transfer agreement  which will see Ziyech make the move to Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window.

According to Evening Standard, the Red Devils had held an interest in recruiting Ziyech from the Dutch champions with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eager to bolster the attack.

However, it appears that the Norwegian vetoed the plans thereafter in order to prioritise the signing of long-term target Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho is expected to leave Dortmund at the end of the campaign and reports have emerged that he favours a move to the Premier League with the Red Devils.

Still, he won't come on the cheap for the Mancunian giants and they will need to make a club-record bid of around £120m in order to convince Dortmund to part ways with the teenager.
