United hopeful of Gomes stay

Manchester United hopeful over youngster's stay amid Chelsea interest

28 May 2020 - 20:06

Manchester United are hopeful of extending the contract of Angel Gomes amid the strong interest from Chelsea in signing him.

  • Predicted Arsenal line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Man Utd, Saka starts
  • Arsenal looking at Brighton ace to replace 25yo star

  • The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising young players at United but he has yet to make a mark with the senior squad.

In the current season, he has been limited to only six appearances across all competitions and out of those, two have come in the Premier League.

Those outings have earned him only 19 minutes of playing time and that has contributed to his contract standoff with the Red Devils.

According to Standard Sport, the Red Devils are still hopeful of extending Gomes' stay on a new long-term deal as they view him as a star for the future.

They are prepared to hand him a contract worth £31,000-a-week with the promise of more minutes with the first-team squad, starting from the 2020/21 season.

As things stand, Gomes has yet to accept the proposal and he could leave the club as a free-agent when his contract expires next month. Chelsea are the leading candidates to sign him, suppose he runs down his United contract.
