Arsenal have confirmed that goalkeeper Bernd Leno has avoided a serious knee injury during the recent Premier League clash against Brighton & Hove Albion.
The German suffered a worrying knee injury during the club's 2-1 defeat at the Amex Stadium and it was initially reported that he could be sidelined for the rest of the year with significant ligament damage.
However, in an update provided by the club, it has been revealed that the shot-stopper has only sustained a moderate ligament sprain and could return to full training in four to six weeks.
The north London giants have another eight games to play in the current league campaign and those fixtures are scheduled over the next four-and-a-half weeks.
Leno is unlikely to recover in time for those matches and back-up goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez will have the responsibility between the sticks for the club.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are still alive in the FA Cup where they are set to face Sheffield United in the quarter-final this weekend. It will be interesting to see whether third-choice goalkeeper Matt Macey starts in that game.
