Germany international Timo Werner has confirmed that he turned down offers from Liverpool and Manchester United in order to join Chelsea.
Werner recently finished the Bundesliga season with Leipzig and he is now expected to make the move to the Blues where he will begin training.
The 24-year-old is ineligible to play for the west London giants until next season, but he will have the opportunity to acclimatise to the club's style of play under Frank Lampard.
In a recent interview with Sport Buzzer, Werner confirmed that there were a number of elite clubs interested in him and acknowledged that Liverpool and United were among them.
"It could have been (was a move to Liverpool or Manchester United on the cards). There were some top clubs who fought for me," He was quoted as saying by the publication.
He added that the Blues offered him the best package out of the interested sides and indicated that money was not a key factor in his decision to join the Europa League holders.
"The entire Chelsea package was the best for me, my game and my career. Money played the smallest role. For me money was never a decisive factor, [if it was] then I could have gone to China," He added.
Werner has bagged a sublime tally of 34 goals and 13 assists from 45 games for Leipzig this term. He won't be involved in their Champions League campaign next month as per the terms of the transfer agreement.
