Arsenal seek to extend Dani Ceballos loan deal

Arsenal seek to extend Dani Ceballos loan deal

12 July 2020 - 08:11

Arsenal representatives have been in contact with Real Madrid in order to discuss the possibility of extending midfielder Dani Ceballos' stay in North London. The Gunners have been impressed with the recent form of Ceballos and see him as an important member of the squad for the 2020/21 campaign.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Ceballos' season has been disrupted through management change, coronavirus and injury, and manager Mikel Arteta is keen to tie the player down to yet another year at the Emirates Stadium to prove himself.

Ceballos opened his career at Arsenal with a wonderful performance against Burnley in August, but has since failed to live up to expectations on a regular basis, particularly against fellow big clubs in the Premier League. It is understood that Arsenal are ready to match the player's 150,000 euro per week salary if the Spain international is to stay in London for a further 12 months.

There are many other suitors for Ceballos' coveted signature, with AC Milan, Real Betis and Valencia all amongst the teams ready to match Arsenal's offer.

In recent weeks, Mikel Arteta has deployed Ceballos alongside Granit Xhaka at the heart of the Gunners' midfield, enabling the side to play an attacking style 3-4-3 formation that brings the full-backs further up the field and in to attacking play. Ceballos' long range of passing and versatility has caught the eye for Arteta, who had hoped to sign the player on a permanent basis, but Ceballos is not ready to commit his long-term future to Arsenal just yet.

Arsenal could still make a move for Espanyol 23-year-old Marco Roca as a replacement for Ceballos if the player decides to return to parent club Real Madrid, but the Gunners are looking for alternatives should a deal fall through. Roca is set to leave his club after the team were relegated to the Segunda Division.
