Chelsea reportedly turned down Rennes' request to include Olivier Giroud in a part-exchange deal for Edouard Mendy this summer.

  • The Blues have recently reached an agreement to sign the Senegalese goalkeeper and they are expected to make an official announcement in the coming days.

According to L'Equipe, Rennes were initially looking to land Giroud as part of the transfer for Mendy, but the proposal was rejected by the west London giants.

It is added that the Ligue 1 side were demanding around £37m for a straight-cash deal, but the Blues managed to agree on a reduced £25m fee after a series of negotiations.

Mendy has already undergone a medical with the Blues and it is only a matter of time before he is presented by the club. He is likely to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal.

Arrizabalaga has struggled over the past 12 months and he has a save percentage of only 54.5, which is one of the worst among the regular Premier League goalkeepers.
