Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has reportedly been left furious after Arsenal's late decision to trigger the release clause on Thomas Partey's contract.

  • The north London side were heavily linked with the Ghana international throughout the summer and they eventually landed his signature before the international transfer deadline.

It initially appeared that Atletico were confident of keeping hold of Partey, but the situation changed on deadline day when the Gunners paid the buy-out fee at the La Liga headquarters.

Without any intimation to Atleti, the Gunners proceeded to sign Partey on a long-term deal after a successful medical and that has left Simone furious, according to Libertad Digital.

The Spanish giants were able to sign Lucas Torreira on loan from the Gunners, but he was never a direct replacement for Partey. Instead, Simeone planned to partner him alongside the Ghanaian which won't happen anymore.

The La Liga transfer window has already closed. Premier League clubs, however, can sign players from EFL teams until October 16 after agreeing to a short domestic-only window earlier this summer.
