Arsenal and Manchester United could reportedly go head-to-head to land the signature of Pau Torres from Villarreal at the turn of the year.
The Gunners bolstered their central defensive ranks with the purchase of Gabriel Magalhaes this summer and he has already made a huge mark on the proceedings.
Still, manager Mikel Arteta remains unsatisfied with the options at hand and reports claim that he could sign another central defender after parting ways with the likes of Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis and Calum Chambers.
Elsewhere, United decided against signing a new centre-back this summer despite their frailties at the back, but they could recruit one when the transfer window reopens in a few months' time.
According to Todo Fichajes, both Gunners and United may look into a deal for Torres in January. The centre-back won't come on the cheap, however, with Villarreal set to demand at least £35m for his exit.
Arsenal have made a good start to their new campaign and they are currently fourth on the table with nine points. United are, however, languishing in the 16th spot with just three points on the board.
